Cold Weather

I love the fact that even though I live in San Francisco CA the weather here is not like it is in LA. We actually get to experience the warm 60s 70s the cold crisp 50s 40s and the current bone chilling 30s (unfortunately without the pleasures of ever having snow)

I like the way the weather feels snippy when it’s really cold, the way it allows everyone to layer up and use the warm clothing they’ve acquired over the years or will purchase as the newly introduced fall fashions fill the stores. I myself love the boots, the scarves, and the jackets, clothes that pretty much keep one warm everywhere but the face. It makes dressing in the morning fun because with that many clothing articles there are endless possible combinations that one can wear. Fall colors are also always appropriate enough not to be supper loud but warm.

So wear warm cozy sox and shop to be prepared for this cold winter, even if you do it in the comfort of your own home

The Way We Walk

Have you ever noticed the way people walk?! Some take long big steps, moving with fluidity, so fast; their beautiful limbs transporting them to and from their destinations. I sometimes wonder if they are in a hurry to be somewhere and how much about the day they miss by moving through it so swiftly. To me the world is so fascinating and ever changing.

Being forced to slow down; I have been missing a lot of the changes to my surroundings, the yellow leaves now covering the sidewalks, the new giant construction on the corner of the street. It’s not because I don’t notice these things in my leisurely walks, but because the restrictions placed on me be my old lady spine (don’t you wish you had one?!) only allow for short distance walks. So even if I wanted to track as much of San Francisco as I could, it would take me a century with plenty of breaks in between.

My sketch is of a young girl walking briskly, I imagine through busy Downtown, on her way to a lunch-in with girlfriends at a little bistro by the Union Street Square. Downtown can only be appreciated and explored on foot, so walking allows for the discovery of its little hidden treasures.

Walking is good for all of us though, not just for its physical attributes but its affects on ones mental clarity and peace. Have you walked today?

Doll

As some of you may know, I hurt my back. In fact, I hurt it so bad that I have been missing in action for about four weeks now. The first two weeks spent in my bed sleeping and crying, and the second two weeks going to the doctors and trying to get my body to move. Sickness is something I would trade for anything even as boring as work, I miss work!

Being unable to control how soon I recover, how severe the pain will be, and weather I will be able to even get out of bed has been the worst experience of this whole thing. My being sick has made me feel like a rag doll.

I am including my sketch of an abandoned puppet, an old broken down toy left unused in a state that I currently feel.

Tomorrow I am getting my epidural shot, wish me luck…

Death Angel

When I began drawing this image my intentions were to draw an angel. However, I drew the angel of death.

In Mogilev (Belarus), the city where I grew up, there is a freedom monument located on a giant hill surrounded by a busy highway on one side and a beautiful park on the other. This monument was made to honor and commemorate fallen soldiers of World War II.

On a giant pillar a statue stands, surrounding it are plaques with endless names. The statue is of a woman walking forward in a beautiful flowing dress. Arms as wings prepared for flight are spread behind her to take her to heaven. She serves as a guide for all the souls recorded to be lost at war.

I was a little girl when we would visit this monumental square, climbing what seemed like a gazillion steps just to reach it and the beautiful park.

My drawing is of the same death angel. Ready to take all the souls of the fallen soldiers of our time home with her to heaven. She walks through battlefields in search of those who need a guide. Her dress is soaked with blood but her purity exudes through every part of her. She is my monument.

Welcome to my Blog!

Living in the modern world where chaos strikes at any moment of the day, we learn to use outlets consisting of hobbies, remote vacations or pamper days to distress and think about something other than work, kids, bills and anything else.

When I was sixteen, my best friend, caretaker, and greatest teacher passed away. Drawing became my new found passion. My outlet was my sketchbook and the ideas that were expressed in it. Since then, drawing throughout the years has helped me cope with stress and hardships.

And although, teaching myself how to draw has been a great challenge, the process of learning was always nothing but fun! In this blog I want to share with you what I have drawn, what I am to draw, and the creative process behind the ideas of my illustrated fashion sketches.
